The First Truffle Fair of the Season

Montiglio Monferrato opens the region's white truffle season with the first of the "circuit" of five truffle fairs held across the Basso Monferrato Astigiano each autumn. Set beneath the 13th-century Montiglio Castle, the fair draws truffle hunters, food stalls, and over 100 exhibitors of hazelnut cakes, honey, DOC wines and grappa, alongside guided visits to the Romanesque church of San Lorenzo and other local sights.

It's a smaller, more local affair than the big-name Alba fair — which is exactly what makes it a good first stop of the season.

Where: Montiglio Monferrato, historic centre and Palatartufo area

Where to Stay: Bric del Vento, Soglio

Bric del Vento sits right in the heart of the truffle circuit — close enough that you can pair a truffle-hunting morning with an afternoon back among the vines.

  • Distance to the event: about 8 km from Soglio — around 10–12 minutes by car
  • Pick up your white truffle finds at the fair, then bring them back to the estate to pair with a bottle of Monferrato Rosso or Juliette Nebbiolo
  • One of the shortest drives of any event on this list — ideal for a relaxed autumn weekend without long transfers
