Villa San Secondo has one of the more eventful local histories in this cluster. In 1296, a peasant revolt drove out the ruling Pelletta family, Ghibelline bankers from Asti. Centuries later, from the late 1500s into the early 1700s, the village came under the rule of the Gonzaga, the Dukes of Mantua, who held it as a feudal county.
