Trattoria Storica
A historic trattoria on Cocconato's main village square — agnolotti al plin hand-folded in the traditional Monferrato way, bagna cauda through the winter months, and house wines poured with the generosity the region is known for. The Cannon d'Oro is the kind of place that has been feeding the village and its visitors for generations and has no particular intention of changing anything. The cooking is specific, seasonal and entirely unpretentious: this is what this territory eats, made by people who have been making it for a long time.
In summer the terrazza opens onto the square, which is one of the better places in the village to sit after a long lunch and watch Cocconato go about its afternoon. The agnolotti al plin — small, pinched pasta parcels filled with braised meat and served with roast jus — are the dish to order, and the bagna cauda in winter is as good as any in the area. Book for weekends; the tables fill early and quickly.
